the interior of alaska has one of the biggest temp changes in the world. 90s dont happen every year, but we do see mid 80s almost every year there.

Yep, hot with mosquitoes the size of pickups.

In the northernmost region (Prudhoe Bay, Beaufort Sea), on the way down for oil, at around 1700 feet they found the remnants of a tropical rain forest. Not decayed, nor petrified, but quickly frozen in time and preserved.

Rotella is a good oil. It is all preference...i used to use delvac 1 until they raised the price to $35 a gallon. That is when i got my preferred customer through amsoil and i switched the last oil change. Rotella T is hit or miss when walmart can get it for me. So i decided to go with AMSOIL so i can just order it.

I did have a buddy that did use RotellaT and he said he didnt like it. He said his truck was quieter with delvac 1.

Yes, Rotella is "Fine". It mostly depends on what your personal preferences on engine and total vehicle maintenance are. Ask yourself the following questions:

A) Do I like doing the maintenance every 5K miles having to go buy the fluids and filters and either get under the truck yourself or have a mechanic do it for you and then just hope for the best...(Oil Analysis eliminates the hoping against hope for any oil)

B) Do you like spending less on each of those 5K mile changes but paying more over time with more changes more often...

C) Do you like to have things on YOUR terms when YOU want them and have?

D) Do you HATE Wal Mart like I do? I had to go for one thing yesterday and was only in wally World for about 10 minutes and just being there put me in a bad mood. Yes, the products they sell are cheap, and they have mastered that part of doing business in large volumes, but IMHO if you are going that route you might as well let their lube shop do your changes for you as well... That part of Wal Mart is cheap too....lol

E) How long do you plan to keep your truck and if not forever how much would you like to lose in value? Keeping your vehicle well maintained with Full Synthetic fluids and maintaining records of that maintenance will usually make the vehicle not only last longer, but run better when you get to the higher mileages while at the same time making sure that when you sell you have something to brag to your prospect about how the truck was maintained which will make sure to bring a better price.

Personally, I run what "I" consider to be the best, (I know, I know, not everyone shares my opinions) so that if I decide to sell or if I decide to keep them I make out better in the long run for what amounts to less time, effort and monetary expense over the life of my trucks.

God Bless

Chris

I have always used Shell Rotella 15w-40. I wanted to go with the Shell 5w-40 synthetic, but the owners manual recommends that you only use 15w-40 in hot weather (over 100) when towing, and not to use 5w-40 under those conditions.

I use Rotella Synthetic with no problems but I think I might give AMSOIL a try next time. I've never used AMSOIL but a few of the guys at work swear by it. I'll have to see what the $$$ difference is.

You will pay a little more for the AMSOIL. You can save paying retail though through the preferred customer program though. Typically you can save 25-35%. Also, when you consider you don't have to change your oil as often, increased fuel economy, sometimes as much as 8% you will save at the pump too.

If I can be of further assistance, don't hesitate to ask.

Take care,

You will want to check with your local Shell retailer and ask for "Rotella T6" which is the synthetic version of Rotella.
