Did anyone see the last issue of Diesel Power magazine were one of the guys (Jeff Dean) from the diesel power challenge running CNG (compressed natural gas) along with #2 diesel. Has anyone ran CNG or now haw he is running it.

Are you referring to a bi-fuel based system where you can run ether diesel fuel or CNG fuel? I have never heard of running CNG as an injection based system, like propane fumigation . Honestly I'm reading this a little weird and seem to be confused.
Ether way, CNG, LNG, and LPG are not liquid based fuels when injected into the more. Thus they have poor lubricanting properties. As most diesel guys may or may not know, diesels depend on the lubricity properties of liquid based diesel fuels. This allows for a smooth running engine along with prolonged engine life. Most CNG, LNG, and LPG engines in the united states, and maybe the world, tend to be spark ignited motors so the lubricity is not a big factor. Also you need store an board fuel tank separate from your liquid fuel tank. Doing this requires you to, at all times, run a compressed gas on board your car, truck, or suv. Personally, as much as there are certain benefits of running any various compressed gas system on board your vehicle, they still pose a serious risk. Whether they be nitrous oxide, CO2, propane, or a CNG bifuel, getting in an accident and hit in the right spot allows for a nasty consquence. Now I do not have kids nor do I want to sound like a pu**y but I rather not risk it unless I "had" to run these setups.
With that being said, CNG, LPG, and LNG are very clean burning forms of fuel that can easily be found and made with in the United States. Roughly about 85% of the natural gas we use in this country comes from with in America. Hell you can get a phil station (literally called phil) by this company index. They can hook your homes natural gas lines to their provided filling pump. Nevertheless, the cost in doing this might out way the benefits of using this specific type of fuel.
I need to get a subscription to that magazine. I will be picking it up in the tomorrow morning in order familiarize myself with the article.

Reason: fine tuning my grammer
In the article this Jeff Dean is injecting CNG along with normal #2 diesel. In the article he took first place in the MPG challenge with 38 mpg, that was just the #2 diesel used not including the CNG. Even with not including the the CNG that is impressive.

Huh, now I have to get the magazine and read the article. 38 MPG is crazy for any vehicle but for a truck that's just insane.
It really does work that well. You also do not have to worry about lube you still run #2. It has to have #2 so it will burn. I have gotten as high as 55 mpg testing before the event. Thanks Jeff p.s. nice to see others with interest like me

how much are kits, where do you find them, and I know of one place that fills natural gas around here. That being said, its 26 miles away... one way... and I'm not sure a close to 50 mile round trip is worth getting some CNG. I would like to research more about this since all I have ever seen is NOS, water/methanol, and propane injection systems.
There is a company called Gas Technology Institute near my new welding job, they are selling CNG at the pump. Actually they are right near Ohare Airport, like 2 minutes away seriously. They are also selling hydrogen fuel, the first ever in the entire state of Illinois. In fact I Was considering getting a bi-fuel Caviler as a daily driver. However, they are not only hard to find, they are expensive for what I'm looking for. I would love to have a biofueled diesel running a CNG system to help out with mileage. This sounds both promising and rewarding. I hope this Jeff guy is reading.
87% of the US consumption of natural gas comes from America. Overall, its a cleaner fuel than even diesel. The downside being that it does not have as great of fuel mileage compared with its gasoline counterpart along with it requiring a pressurized fuel system. Regardless its a "greener" fuel then some petroleum based products like gasoline, diesel #2, or LPG (propane). Furthermore, its a domestic non foreign oil source that can be made and used right here in America.

It is a system built by the truck's owner,I get the mag too and posted this somewhere else,I did wanna start a thread but someone has got to it already! He has a single tank installed in the bed of the truck, secured by 2 steel fuel tank straps. It has a neat look and does not take up much space at all..Since reading that issue of Diesel power,I cannot stop thinking about building one for my own use.And as for 26 miles away^^^^...IF I could get 37 mpg outta my Duramax,[best mpg=25.2/highway/68mph]I'd be joyriding instead of typing on this forum!! You will also find that CNG will be a lot cheaper than other fuels, but that greatly depends on your goegraphical location...Yep,it is fogged in just like the truck would be nitrous'ed,and it is a steady and safe mix of the CNG rather than mixing at different times, either the setup is on or off..
