Well, I bought a EGR blocking plate last night and the guy also had the WIF wrench's for sale. After reading this thread, I decided to go ahead and get a wrench also. $18 on Ebay. I know, shoulda bought from one of the sponsors. Tried to get a EGR plate but no one had any. (At least the ones I asked)
I will add too though, especially with the LMM's, that the grease is boo-koo bad if it gets into the injectors and the DPF. The burned grease smoke/soot can cause problems on the emission sensor crap.
Also, I see you used the "white" plumbers tape. When wraping threads for ANY petroleum based component, the "white" is a no-no.
For petroleum based and/or LP/natural gas pipes/tubing etc.... one needs to use the "yellow" thread tape. The yellow doesn't decay as does the white tape when prolonged contact/exposure with petroleum based chemicals hits it. i.e. Diesel fuel etc....
x2 diesel lubricates o-ring well enough

Use of channel-lock pliers vs WIF wrench depends on how tight the previous goob (GM or previous owner) put it on. My first attempt with LARGE (and they gotta be large to get a decent angled grip) channel-locks was not pretty due to it being very tight and the plastic being fairly delicate. IMHO - go with the WIF wrench if you wanna avoid damaging the sensor.
