Excellent write-up JPT. When I did my first oil change on mine, I bought a fuel filter and planned to change that too. I started in on it and was like screw that I'll get it later! I didn't have a clue where to start. Thanks for your time and thorough write-up.

Remove old O-ring and give the WIF sensor a shot of brake clean to clean it up, put on new o-ring and a couple layers of thread tape, make sure you wrap the thread tape in the same direction as the threads so it doesnt bunch up while tightening, next lube the o-ring with transgel.
Does anyone else ever use thread tape?? With the o ring on there is this necessary at all? I mean the threads are slotted anyway, and I cant think teflon tape would help seal this any better.
That looks like an awful lot of grease too... is that really a good idea to be sending into the injection pump and injectors??
Both are interesting ideas tho. I just haven't seen anyone doing that before....
I guess whatever works, as long as she runs good on the way out the door!
Is the duramax like the powerstock were it has two? The powerstock has a real easy one on top of the engine and also one down, thats a little harder, on the water separator.

same thing i thought i didnt use tape and no leaks no grease either just diesel on the o-rings even dry they will seal if you dont over tighten the filter imo
oh and i think the oil filter is self tightening JK but mine seems like it is
Very nice write up and I did mine today and have a few extra pic'sthat may help.
I took my battery out, so as to have more room to work.
Here is a pic of me disconnectiong the WIF sensor
The WIF held a lot of trash.
