what do I need to look for I have a 02 2500 but I don't know what the axle is or what to look for on websites any pointers from elders? model ect.

All Duramax trucks have the 11.5 -14 bolt rear axle. made by American Axle.
Many aftermarket parts catalogs do not have the correct information.

Non greaseable u-joints are stronger.

I know 12 bolt and 14 bolt but what type of part number is what I mean sorry maybe dealership can tell me

There are 3 different kinds of 14 bolts. 9.5" Semifloat, 10.5" Full floater and 11.5" Full floater.

Whats the cab configuration on the truck? U-joint size is most likely 1410 series.

The most likely U-joint part numbers will be 2-0054 for neapco greaseables. 5-160x for spicer greaseables and 5-1410x for Sealed Spicers.

I think the early rears were a 1480 (10.5" axle) and the 11.5's use an AAM specific 1485 series joint. Something you might want to confirm. Could only be a Dodge thing but the rear one is definately one of these 2

What do you mean by early? Diesels 2001 thru 2010 all have the same 11.5" 14 bolt. The NBS (2007.5-2010) All got the AAM specific 1485 series joints. The 2001-2007classic trucks typically had 1410 series joints with an automatic. ZF6 trucks got 1480 series joints. There are a few Allison trucks floating around with 1480 series joints. From what i have seen, i believe its select 04.5-05 Allison trucks got 1480 series U-joints.


I guess the question is. What year, and cab/box configuration is the OP's truck?

Early 14 bolts (not necessarily diesels) Just saying that you need to be sure which one it is, either a 1480 or a 1485, there is a difference and they arent necessarily immediately noticeable when you go to install them.

The difference is that the 1485 series is .005" narrower than 1480 series.

All trucks with the 11.5 rear 2007.5 up are 1485 series. The vast majority of 2001-2007classic trucks with the 11.5 rear( big block and duramax) are 1410 series, the select few with the bigger joints are 1480 series. 1410 series has 1.188" caps, where 1480 series has 1.375" caps.
