Unless if, you have an 06 or newer, than V2 is the only option.

Noteworthy to point out, with respect to tuning capability, the V1 and V2 are equivalent.
Also there is no more updates for the V1 and support is limited. The V1 model is not being made anymore. Whats left of the original V1's made are still for sale. Just keep that in mind.
I just did a straight trade for efi live, it will be here monday and i am very interested in making my own tunes or at least learning how. My question is can a tune be modified with a laptop that is plugged into the truck? Like on the fly? Might be a dumb ? idk?

Nope. You use the Scan tool to record your runs, then make adjustments from there through the tune tool.
You can download the software to try at EFILive Web Site. I suggest reading/learning A LOT before you try to tune yourself.
