Ok so after a small amount of asking seems like these might not be so bad. I know plenty of people who are making EFI live tunes but who is doing pretuned ECM's. If possible could you send me a PM or perhaps chat a bit with me on here about them so i can get familiar with them and know what is possible?
I know Mike, MMLMM, had them advertised but if anyone else thats cool too.
Thanks!

I know Killerbee does and im pretty sure IdahoRob does too. Any of those 3 would be excellent to go with. Huskerdiesel might have them too...i havent checked their site though.

I have a pre tuned ECM that I can sell you...no dpf no egr 175HP extra it's just sittin here I bought it from a buddy to check it out and no this is NOT rob's tuning I wouldn't sell that...it's tuning came from a guy at the local dealership he is a certified GM diesel mechanic and has plenty of tuning experience...it has a defuel so it will work with a transgo but may hate life if you are hard on it all the time...PM me if you are interested

I think pretuned ECMs will undermine EFI. If you pay 800$ for the V2 and buy a decent laptop you still need a lot of hours of experience . Then some cat comes in with some ECM he got from a EFI dealer and talks sh!t . For less than 1/2 ?
How do you say that. A pretuned ECM with a DSP5 gives you 5 tunes in one ECM. The tuners on this site have better tuning than any canned tuner. The pretuned ECMs are for people that dont want to take the time to learn EFI or dont tinker with things. If they dont plan on doing many upgrades, that would be their best bet. No sense in spending the full amount and not use it to it's full potential.

It doesn't work that way. You can't just take an ECM and sell it to someone with another vehicle. You would be selling, in most cases, something that at best, won't work in his vehicle, at worst, could cause real damage.
I just thought you might want to know this in advance.

I figured something like that was possible haha. Notice I didn't really just jump on it! Thanks man.
Anyway everyone I believe I am going to stick to my instinct answer and get the whole EFI Live set up and not jew myself out.
Thanks for all the answers though

I know plenty of people who are making EFI live tunes but who is doing pretuned ECM's.
There is a real variety of competence in this field. Many of the participants do little more than top end modify. That is essentially much the same as what plastic commercial tunes do.
Very few of us, do complete ECM rewrites, which is, in my opinion, the only way to get real ride refinement. That takes 500 hours to do (for each platform), that is most of the objection...real change takes a serious effort. I had 1000 hours into familiarity, before I could feel competent to do this.
It is very easy to do top end adjustments, anybody with EFILive and the ability to read can do this in a few hours, albeit an element of harm is usually involved. But to me, THAT is what undermines EFILive. I would guess that 90% of sold EFILive units are unused to any real potential, usually Joe gets talked into it "the only way to go" without any real explanation of what EFILive is. EFILive is not a tune. It is a very powerful tool.
If you have an addictive personality, I highly recommend avoiding it.
