Por 15 questions(undercoating truck soon)

I just got an 05 reg cab dually Dmax. The truck is in great shape now, but I plan on plowing with it in the North East. I am thinkgn of undercoating with POR 15 to prevent rust. My question is, would you also coat up the brake lines, tranny lines, ect. so they do not cause me any problems down the road with rusting through?(had a 2500hd before and ended up replacing leaking brake and tranny lines)? Also do you guys just wire wheel the painted frame first and then put the POR 15 on or do you use the metal ready stuff they sell. Any insight is appreciated.

Thanks

Never heard of POR 15 but I would clean as much up as possible but I would not coat the tranny or break lines or anything like that. It might cause more problems down the road if you have to replace or remove something for service.

I wouldnt do the lines, and would probably get the frame buffed or scratched up pretty well to make sure the undercoating sticks

POR 15 will not work very well on the lines. if i recall, it has minimal adhesion to aluminum and stainless steel. it will be great on your frame and related components. BUT...you MUST have a spotlessly clean surface, as it will not only seal out contaminants, it will also seal them in. It is great stuff in trunks, gas tanks, frames, etc.

Ok, Ill leave the lines alone then. Do you think por 15 is the best stuff to use as an undercoating? Or should I be looking at something else?

I used por 15 for a project for something but I had left over and just painted my hitch with the remaining amount. I wouldn't recommend doing your frame with it. It peeled with in a a few months. Esp how expensive it is I would consider just getting the truck undercoated....Just my opinion
