8.1 Liter Silverado Hard to Start

2002 8.1L silverado. My problem is that when you crank the first and second time the engine will not start, but when cranked a third time, it starts just fine. The first 1-2 attempts at starting, the engine just cranks over. But on the third the engine fires up no problem. What is the problem here. Fuel pump, Fuel pressure gauge, fuel filter, starter?

you may have a bad check valve in the fuel pump. turn key to ON position a couple times without cranking. Than try to start, if this helps it the pump. you should check fuel pressure to be 100% sure. if you loose pressure rapidly after is builds, its the pump

Also check your oil pressure guage when you crank it. If it does not start to build some sort of pressure then it is an oil pressure switch. It is designed to not deliver fuel if there is no pressure. It wouldn't be an oil pump problem, bad switch or connection on that switch. Just check that, When was the last time you changed your fuel filter? Just throwing ideas out. Kinda sounds like a pump going bad. I had one on my '99 3/4 ton do the same thing, then one morning would not start. Check these few things, and also check pressure like what was already said above.

sounds like your fuel pump is bad. i would check the fuel pressure. the only other thing it could be is the ECT sensor which tell your computer the truck is hot all the time and it wont let it start. i had this problem on a 8.1 liter and it took care of the problem
