8.1 liter

Anyone ever seen one of these things pull and what was it in(truck, avalanche, suburban). I kinda want to get one of the 2500 suburbans but to like sled pull and don't know how good it would do.

My cuz had the 8.1 in a 4x4 ex cab and it would not out run my 4 door d-max 4x4 with just a hypertech. It really likes gas too.

Yeah... I would stay away from the gasoline big blocks... They suck the fuel down bad... You might get 12-13 MPG unloaded and 8-10 MPG with a good load..

A buddy of mine had the 8.1. He couldn't afford to feed it. He said he was lucky to get 11 - 11.5 on the road. In town, it was more like 8, but he does a LOT of stop and go driving. It was a pulling machine and would pull a house, but the mileage was absolutely junk.

I don't plan on getting rid of the Dmax, so it would still do the heavy lifting but it would be fun to have the 8.1l, more as a toy than any thing else.

Really for the extra power they have over a 6.0 gas, they don't do bad for mpg. I know two guys with reg cab 02's one with a 6.0 and the other with a 8.1 and they had very little mpg difference. And obviously the 8.1 would eat the other alive. As far as sled pulling, i saw a 05 3500 crew cab dually (8.1) with a bale unroller bed put a hurtin on the competition in the country boy class a couple years ago, but i don't know how it would stack up against a dmax because they had so many truck that they separated the diesels and the gassers.

A friend of mine's dad had an 02 with the 8.1L It had plenty of power, and pulled very well. Very thirsty, but it had lots of torque for a gasser, and it was INSTANT. No waiting for a turbo to spool, it was instant torque on demand, which made it feel very powerful.
