Truck sat over the winter, replaced battery. Truck started and ran. Dead battery next morning. disconnected and charged. Attached terminal and it was drawing a heavy load. Battery on passenger side was hot and I could smell the acid and hear it exhausting. I am sure I did not incorrectly hook up charger or terminals.
Dead cell(s) shorted out. Remove ASAP. Or, at least pull the negative if you need to drive.
Replace in pairs. Once you find that one in the pair is toast, it has already been sucking the life out of the other in the pair for some time...it's weak now. Replacing only the one, that weaker one will now suck the life out of the new one...and you'll be back at square one again in no time.
