Gauges install
Hey guys im getting ready to install my new autometer gauges, boost and pyrometer.
im not very experienced with any of this stuff so all the help i can get would be great. i have already tapped a hole in my manifold for the pyrometer (have the edge in ther now) but im curious about where to tap for the boost gauge?
i have an LLY and it seems to me i will tap the tube with a black plastic cover on it ( not the 6.6 cover a different one that looks like more of a protector shield)
it looks like the EGR tubing runs right under neath it or to it?
ill take that off and tap it?
as for the electrical part and lighting how hard is that? and after reading diesel manor's write up on it it seems to me that i only run the pyrometer to the trucks ignition? why is that, it says nothing about boost. will it be alot more understanding when i actualy get the gauges, how are the instructions that come with them?? or is ther any.
big thing is im looking for reassurance on where to tap for the boost fitting, any pictures of the LLY would be GREATLY appreciated, pictures help me alot, lol im not the best with this stuff but im learning!
thanks for allt he help, Matt

yea i read that, very good and detailed, just dont understand where to tap for the boost. it says under the 6.6 blak plastic, take the blue boot cover off, and tap the pipe on the driver side, is that right? it seems so thin to me to tap?

Yeah your right where to tap it. Follow the tube with the plastic cover on the right side of the engine (the EGR is underneath this part) follow this tube down the right side(passenger side) of the engine until you come to the clamp where it meets the intercooler tube. Somewhere around here is where you can tap it. The best way to do this is take the plastic cover off of the intake manifold and take the whole manifold off and tap it. It is only 6 or 7 bolts and is easy to take off. I tapped mine right before it meets the intercooler tube and clamp. As for the electrical, the boost gauge is mechanical and only needs power to light the bulb so you can see it at night, however the pyro is electrical and needs power from both the dimmer switch and the ignition. One to power it the other to light the bulb for nighttime driving. I followed the diesel manor instructions and didn't have any problems, but keep us posted if you have any hangups.

Here is a pic that might help, my finger is pointing to where I tapped the manifold and installed the boost fitting.

well i came to another problem..
do some boost gauge kits come with different components?
my kit doesnt come with a piece to actually screw into the tapped intake manifold for the boost ... (kinda like the thermocoupler for the pyrom)
its only got the T fitting in it, which i think is used for the LB7's with the wastegate?
so does this mean i gotta go get a different gauge kit? or can i just buy the piece to screw into the manifold?

Ok on the gauges the boost goes to dimmer only and the Pyro goes to both dimmer and ignition. There is a fitting that screws into the tapped hole, it does sound like they sent you the one for an LB7. Maybe this will help:DieselManor - Accessories

thanks for the help maverick. yesterday i just called lordco and then they set me up with the right piece. also just read the actual instructions in the gauges and found out the pyro goes to both and boost goes to only dimmer. so happy the gauges are in, i feel alot better using the manual ones, i never really trusted the attitude controler for boost. now i know exactly what im producing, it is SWEET!!!
i took my time, and even though it probably took me about 4 hours to do everything, it really wasnt that hard at all, and im no mechanic.
thanks for all the help guys!
