Thanks for all the quick replies. No, I do not have a center console. My radio is a Uniden Grant, circa 1992, with a D104 mic, that seems to weigh a ton, and the plastic under the dash seemed a little flimsy (custom support bracket?). I've been dealing with mag mount antennas for too long...no more for me, thanks.
FH Leader...it sounds like you're running the kind of set up I'm looking for. A pic, at you convenience of course, would be excellent.
mine is mounted on top of my dash. im on hte taller side and i sit more uprite, so i have no problems seeing over it. i have the antenna mounted on my backrack and i get great recieption. it helps out on my trips cause i find where the accidents are ahead of time and how to get around them.

in my 04 under the radio there is a hole in the pannel. i mounted the stock radio bracket from the cobra there and it looks decent sitting there. i will put some pics up on fri night if that isnt to late for you. i also have dual 4 foot whips of the toolbox. i can get about 13 miles on a good day with the stock 29 ltd nightwatch

I was looking at that hole, but I think my Uniden to too big to fit there. I'll have to take another look at it. Pics would be great. I've been waiting two years to mount this radio, waiting until the weekend won't hurt me to see how you mounted yours. Thanks!
I mounted mine on the dash with velcro holding it, I have never had a problem with it...
I also have a Wilson roof mount magnet based antenna, right in the middle of the roof.
and I just hang the mike from the ceiling storage space. it does not look bad, IMO... It is a Connex 3300 HP Rebel, and they are HEAVY radios...
I put the small folded rag under it to eliminate movement while rollin'...
OH, from my driveway in Galax, VA I have had nights when the skip is just right when I was able to talk to Clearwater Florida, Rock Hill SC , and Nashville TN

I just bought a 15 dollar floor mount for my 2002 (no full center console). It's two angled metal plates with saw teeth on the bottom. I've been all over with it and haven't had it try to move. In the 2003 I had the full center console and was going to modify the space under the radio to hold my CB (works best with a front mount mic. I never got around to it before I traded it for the '02.
P.S. Traded because the '03 was a 6.0L with 99K and the '02 was a Duramax with 71K.

I've seen the saw-tooth style, and I'm considering it, but I would really like to find a way to get it all up off of the floor, and I'm not too keen on putting it on top of the dash (sorry, just not my style). However, as wide as my radio is, I may have to go the saw-tooth route. I'll keep looking until I'm happy, and for now it will just stay on the broken plywood console from my old Z-71.
not to highjack the tread but what kind of CB radio is everyone running. I want to purchase one before I go on my road trip. uni-den and cobra are the 2 that come mind. are there any others that i should look at.

I personally like Connex and Galaxy Radios, I have the Connex pictured above and you can get it without a flag, or with an American Flag, or whatever, but I have had it for 10 years without issues, and I have been able to talk to Florida from my home in VA when conditions are right... All other times it gets out for about 20 miles under normal conditions...
