RV question...convert 454 to Dmax/allison

I an seriously considering buying an 89 Itasca RV with a Chev 454 gas engine and know most only give about 10-16 MPG. (if you are lucky)
So, has anyone installed a Duramax diesel to the existing
454 auto trans ? That would be the least expensive way
depending upon whether the housings will match up directly
or if an SAE adaptor is required.

The other alternative would be to install a used Duramax with its existing Allison transmission.

Any ideas will be appreciated.

Gm did have a set-up in the ealy 90's with a allison behind a 454, with dist.less ignition. It was in a r.v set up.
