does it sound like a spark nock in a gas engine. thats what mine sounds like, but goes away when warmed up... sounds louder with the programmer.

i got some kind of ticking noise. its hard to tell with a diesel cause they got a natural rattle and tick to them. specially cold

Mine ticks at times. I bet what most people are hearing when they hear the "type writer" sound is the pilot injection.

Mine is getting louder, i think it might be the exhaust manifold leaking.

Mine does it during idle cold or warm,I notice it more on drivers side. Truck has 67,XXX miles on it so out of warranty

yes the typewriter noise is normal. I just had new heads put on my truck and that was the only reason i was concerned. Mine never made the noise before. since i first posted it has started ticking very loud and i have determined that it is a exhaust leak on the passenger side.
