Unhappy diesel exhaust fluid problem - help!

I have a 2011 duramax with under 10k miles that has been in the shop almost continuosly for the last 4 weeks due to the exhaust fluid issue and i dont know what to do...My dealer says they have finally replaced the entire exhaust fluid tank and sensors but cant recalibrate the truck. they say they are in touch with the "regional technician" which i assume means the GMC representative for this dealer...No answers. How does one get answers on this from GM? is there a systemwide problem with DEF systems in GMs such that a recall should be issued? anyone know anything? aghhhh!

What problems are you having? I just bought a 2011 that had 8 miles on it and it now has 800 miles on it and my DEF light came on and i took it in this morning and they had forgottin to fill it. So they filled it and also did the recall. Which was reflashing the ECM for the DEF system.

Keep all your documents and research lemon law in your state.

dealer service dept update just received

they just told me there are two in line exhaust fluid sensors - one at the particulate filter and one at the turbo (there are also new sensors in the newly installed DEF tank). They just ran a diagnostic, as suggested by the GM tech, and it showed one sensor way out of range - So, GM is overnighting 2 new sensors to put in...tomorrow will tell if works

Thanks Ryan. i have had 2 f250s and 2 z71's and this duramax. And, despite the limited amount of time in the duramax, i have otherwise been thrilled with it. I really hope they get this silly exhaust fluid injection system fixed as i do love driving the truck.

I do too. I've also heard from other sources that there have been issues with DEF freezing and other issues on the other brands too. It's a shame what the auto makers are forced to do now a days thanks to the enviro hippies.

Since I have had my '11 Duramax, it has been to the dealership twice for the DEF system, and once to a private truck shop. The truck shop replaced both nox sensors and the entire DEF system 10,000 miles ago. Yesterday the service exhaust light, and the service engine light came on again! Codes read that the nox sensors are gone, and there is a problem with the DEF system!
Called the dealership where I bought the truck, and the service manager told me his diesel guy has no idea what is going on, and that I should continue to work with the private truck shop.
He says there is nothing the dealership can do, and that GM's technical bulletins do not address the issue
I am now in the process of having the truck shop eliminate the system!
My next stop will be a Ford dealership, thanks GM!
