High Idle, good or bad?!

I bought a BD high idle kit for my truck a while back because i was reading a topic stating that while your truck is idling at 700ish rpm a small amount of fuel continusly goes into your crank case. so hear i go by this. I use it sometimes when im running in somewhere so this wont happen, this is true? if not why do they make this high idle kit? and is it harmfull to my truck? btw the high idle revs at 12h00is

I thought it was only to warm the truck up when cold.

Or to use PTO accessories. Your engine should not have cylinder wash if it is operating normally. A oil analysis is the best way to identify if you have a cylinder wash problem (fuel in oil) usually caused by failed injector or during engine warm up.

My LMM does this too. 1000 RPM idle with the turbo vanes closed. My neighbors LOVE it.

My LLY has a high-idle setting built in, if it's cold it will idle up to warm the motor. It sounds like a jet taxiing in my driveway!

There is no way idling it causes fuel to go in the crankcase. I bet I have idled my truck a cumulative 500 hours and never had a problem. It runs at least 10 minutes every morning year round to warm up and usually stays on when I run into a store or any other place for less than 15 minutes.

A buddy of mine in AZ use to idle his for 5-6 hours while he was out riding just to keep the A/C on.

There are TWO different "High Idle" programs--

"Elevated idle" is a factory program that can be set on/off through the steering wheel controls or other. It ONLY will work if the temperature is below freezing and will turn off if you apply the brake or put in gear. The idle is only one speed -1000 RPM-??

The other idle is "High Idle" -- is normally a PTO option where there are three different speeds. It is set through the cruise controls, and will work at any temperature. The option can be added to most vehicles by sending power to the ECM- terminal.
If wired correctly, it will turn off with the brake or when into gear.
