We live in a global market so you would be hard pressed to find anything that requires hundreds of parts to be made strictly in one country. Isnt the facility used to manufacture these engines outside of Dayton, Ohio?

of all the companies to use they chose one that has been in the market of diesel engines for close to a century. isuzu is well known for their diesels as being some of the best in the market as well as a lot of them sold. i hate jap and chi..you know it, stuff. but in this case gm made a good choice. it was obviously a good decision seeing as the longevity of this motor series and the overall reliability of it.

it was designed in japan as a joint venture, testing and calibration was done in the us at a gm lab along with a few isuzu engineers. its assembled in moraine ohio and the design and rights fully belong to gm, along with other isuzu diesel motors (part of the agreement). with well over 1 million (closer to 2 million now) motors produced with relatively few issues, id say it was/is a very successful motor.

i still dont like jap cars though...

Certain parts are cast in Japan. I think the block and heads come from overseas. I remember reading about a foundry at the Moraine plant, so I'm not sure what is cast here. The pistons were out-sourced. The fuel system & ECM is Bosch (German).

Same here. I wish they would've let the Germans & Japs do the interior and suspension too!
