1996 Chevy 2500 Turbo Diesel Intake

I'm new to the forum and new to duramax engines in general and I was looking for a worth while performance air intake system or perhaps other good performance parts that might get me started.

A 96' Isnt a Duramax, Its a Detroit Diesel. Anyhow, when I had my 96' TD, I made my own intake from a 180 degree bend of 3" exhaust tube and a high flow cone filter and built a few heat shields for it. Cheap and easy intake.

Yea, a U-bend, ya know, a 180, half a 360...... The filter has to face backwards on a 6.5 to fit under the hood off the turbo, since its mounted off to the side, not in the valley........

From what I'm told it's a new motor out of a 2000 Silverado, still a Detroit Diesel?

There are a lot of hacks in this industry. Be very careful with who you choose to do work on your truck!

I got it for $1800, runs and drives great, newer motor (I'm told), new CV joints. Pretty much just needs an oil change. Little damage to the body, surface rust in the bed, driver's seat has a chunk out of the side but I'm not upset about it. I just really would like to know what type of motor its got in it so I can start learning about it. Any suggestions?
