my dad's 07 was parked on a natural gas location on a startup, and when they cranked it or blew it out the stack, so much came out concentrated in the air it revved his truck for about 30 seconds. scary but kinda cool. i could be off a little with the details i don't remember exactly, it was a while back.

This was a few years back that I drove professionally however I thought there was a kill device on most big rigs, the military had 2 kill switches on thier Vietnam era trucks that I drove back in the late 80's. The switch in the Navy trucks was a crude pull type device that I assumed cut the fuel flow. I am thinking that most of the trucks I drove after the military had them too.

They have fuel solenoids that shut the fuel off but nothing to keep outside sources from causing a runnaway, like a turbo oil leak or..?.(not a big truck mechanic). From what I've read, you can add an air shutoff device and some jobsites require them, but they don't come standard.

I think some of the old 2-strokes had air knifes to cut the air intake off in a runaway situation. Not a bad idea to have on some of these things, mount it on a solenoid that is spring return shut, when the key shuts off or the solenoid loses power, it cuts off the air flow.

these are also required on pulling tractors. cutting off the engine air supply with an air knife or something is the only sure way to stop a runaway.

I wonder what would happen on a truck with a DPF. Would it plug up the and cause it to shut down or blow up?
