Serpentine belt/Timing belt

Does anyone have any suggestions at what mileage you should consider replacement? I have about 70K on my truck and have wondered if its "time".

The serpentine belt you can just inspect. look at the inside ribs for cracks..if you see a lot in an inch, time to change it. If no cracks, then it is still good. I dont think there is any set timeframe for this. I have almost 60,000 on my truck and the belt still looks good.

x2 on inspecting the belt. Look online and you will find lots of pictures of what the belt should look like and when it is time to replace.
Take a look at:

+1 on what they have said. However on the duramax there is no timing chain/belt, its gear driven.

There should be a couple of reference marks on the tensioner. They indicate stretch. The closer they are the more it has stretched. If they are lined up, it is time to replace it.

when you replace the belt deffinately check your idler and tensioner pullys, its not uncommon for them to sieze up, so better to catch it before it ruins a new belt.
