They already produce many small (and large) diesels, in other countries. They claim it's not profitable for them to produce 'em here.
Here’s one:

is that actually Ford though? or International? All these companies need to start making diesel's in house. I forgot about Ford having those engines oversea's but we need to bring new Diesels into the States and also make some by thier selves, not by Cummins, or International, or Isuzu.

Ford is stuck in a contract with Navistar, any SD with a diesel HAS to be a Navistar.

However, they're set to dump that agreement so they can bring in their own Diesel...a.k.a., the 'Scorpion'.

In South Africa they offer diesels in a 1.6, 2.0, and 2.5, along with the 3.0L DURAtorq (as shown above).

Here's a Crew Cab Ranger with a high output 3.0L common rail Diesel:

hmmm... just wondering but doesnt any one remember the half ton with the 6.5 in it. that didnt seem like such a hot seller for what i remember. i know they are different motors, yes. but i remember an article that was saying these motors will be harder to modify than our current motors are. and more of a PITA i would think that little dumpling sure looks hard to work on. but as stated before just my .02

They made a few…they are rare though.

The 1st one I ever saw was while fillin’ up. I walked out and saw the two holes in the front bumper on a faded out blue reg cab 1500 and thought it was a replacement bumper.

When I inquired further about it, she confirmed it was a diesel AND it had been in her family through 4 different drivers. With 500k miles on it and still getting 25mpg, she had no plans of EVER selling it.

Ah I see what you are saying about Ford. Makes sense to sell it over there since they use diesel like crazy over there. But GM needs to get Isuzu to allow them to start throwing their engines in the S-10's and 1500's and just putting a Duramax badge on them.

I'm sorry but the 6.5 was a joke however you look at it. I really have no idea why they put it in the half tons back then. They were slow, inefficient, gutless (on paper and in reality; believe me, I owned and worked on one). Not taking a stab at you, but comparing a 6.5 in a half ton then to putting a 4.5 in one now would be like retrofitting a new motor with a carburetor.

New diesels have come amazingly long ways in technology in the last 10-even 5 years. And with recent advances in materials (like CGI), engines are being produced 20% lighter. Sure, emissions demands are killing their potential success, but to the average consumer, the LMK's strengths meet most people's needs (and desires). I think the advancement diesel technology has made ample room for this pickups success. And I know a lot of people who would agree with me on that.

i know diesels have made leaps and bounds since the Detroit boat anchor was put in half tons but what i was trying to say is they had it out on the marke then and there is no reason they cant stick a 6.6 duramax in a half ton now. why go through with all the garbage of making a newer engine that is 150lbs lighter. sure lots of things sound great on paper but how about they put a tried and true, already proven motor in them. id bet my left nut that a half ton with the 6.6 would be just as good on fuel as a half ton with the 4.5

I doubt if GM's (Government Motors's) president; ) would consider anything but "green" vehicles, like electric or hybrid or pedal or granola powered as marketable.
