I fully understand that there's more to what's going on than I actually know about. I also understand GM's desire to expand globally rather than solely on US soil. What I don't understand is why they're so scared of making this motor happen, when it fits the market's demand perfectly i.e. 1) They've claimed the motor costs a reasonable amount less to manufacture as it has reversed heads. 2) It's lightweight and compact design (CGI block, in-valley turbo, 72° block) enables it to be used in more than simply pickup truck applications. 3) It claims to be 25% more efficient than previous motors. Okay, so we're talking about a semi-revolutionary motor that makes plenty of power, relatively low production costs, turns out high efficiency in the middle of a recession... Does anyone else agree with me in that we might not be getting the real reason why we're not seeing this as an option yet? Call me borderline obsessed, but I've acually been curving my spending so I can gather money together for this truck. And now it's...........
This is a real disapointment i couldn't wait to trade my wife's maxima in for the tahoe diesel now i have to wait even longer. And i knew around 10 people myself that were going to trade in their dodge or ford's to get the new pick up. They might be making a big mistake by letting Ford once again come out with there's first! Gm probably could of grabed queit a few customer's from ford and dodge.
In all honesty, I'm pretty sure I'd go broke to own one of these bad boys. I'm almost done with getting my engineering degree, and since I heard about diesel power I made it first on my to do list to buy my dream truck as my graduation present to myself. I first read Ford was working on a concept before I ever heard of the LMK, and I immediately pondered the thought of becoming a Ford fan... (scary I know). I can't tell you how many times I've thought to myself: Ya know, it sure would be nice to have 3/4 ton towing power in a lightweight fuel efficient, Ricer slaying pickup. A part of me doesn't care if it ends up costing $50 large, if it's my dream truck would there be any reason to replace it? How about tracking down one of the concept models? (At gunpoint if necessary).
A little question on the side: I've already dreamed up what I would do to this now-non-existent truck. Since they would put the 6L90 behind the motor, how feasible would a built MW7 Allison 1000 swap be? I've been told the reason the Triple Q/Ts sit higher is because the Allison makes it necessary for a 2 inch body lift for clearance. I can't think of anything that would turn my crank like this motor with a Suncoast IV behind it, with about $5000 in engine mods. It would be a race to get 30 mpg and 500+RWHP.
I personally am happy with my non-emissions truck...and I think by time these things come out, they will be loaded down so much, that they won't be all they are cracked up to be. And I'm sure emissions laws will be much worse by then as well. I'm not saying it would be a horrible truck...but "me personally" I wouldn't give my truck up for anything.....EXCEPT maybe a Kodiak

I play mr. gm because I work their. We where told by gm they have suspended ALL NEW models except the volt. for at least 2 years. Yes the camero, the truck. They also had a meeting with our dealership asking what we think we can do about selling more cars. We have been #1 in the state of washington for 8 months now on new car sales. We told them 60,000 new tahoes and suburbans arnt doing the trick. Their is NOTHING you can do. Its a great idea to hold off and figure out how not to loose 2 million dollars a day in operating costs.
They must be misinformed, the camaro is shipping right now, several pictures of them on car haulers heading to dealers. But it is a disappointment they won't go forward with the 4.5 diesel. And to Kantra the 4.5 is smaller physically and weighs less than the 6.6
