Unlock code for RDS radio

Does any one know how to unlock a radio in 04 Silverado without taking it to the dealer? I have been searching internet but I can't seem to find any info for the RDS type radio.

If you have someone that has a tech II then you are set, but it is a dealer thing since it talks to the BCM. I ran into this. I had to give the dealer instructions how to do it. I got the instructions off dieselplace IIRC.

I went to the GM dealer today to have them program the radio... They told me that the radio is not compatible with truck then charged me $43. So I left with no working radio and $43 dollars poorer not to mention the cost of radio. Anyone have any suggestions? Why would the radio not be compatible? The radio came out of a wrecked 03 Trail Blazer. I even gave them the VIN from the Trail Blazer.

ahhh it wont work in your 2002...i didnt see that before. Although, i would think if it plugs in right, it should work...I have read that it is the BCM that locks it. On my truck when i put the 6 disc changer in it....it would work until i actually started the truck. That is when the BCM would start talking to the radio and notice that it didnt have the correct VIN. Have you tried to install it in your truck? I am assuming it is in there now? Does it just say lock? I know on mine they just turned off the theftlock...that is what the instructions are for anyway.

I bought me a 04 silverado crew cab (work truck). It has a AM/FM radio in it. Of course I wanted a CD player in it so I went to a junk yard and bought one out of the Trail Blazer. The clock is on and the word "lock" is displayed along with the little red light on the front of radio. The Tech spent about 45min before he told me he couldnt re-program it to work in my truck. He said I need one out of an 04 model truck on non RDS type.
Does this sound right?

there is something different with the work trucks IIRC. BUT if you can get it installed in another truck and they can take the lock off of it. there is a way to do it and make it work...the techs and tech support isnt smart enough to know how to go beyond the books.

Thanks for the info. The salvage place said they would give my money back or trade it for another one. But if I take it back to the dealer again and they cant get the traded one to work then out more money again. If I ever get this thing figured out I will post on here what I had to do in case anyone else has this problem, it can be very aggravating.
