I heard that another wave of emissions restrictions was coming for 2016. That is what a friend told me, we will see when the time comes.

I agree the engine is fine but the trans is weak and needs to be addressed.

I have been hearing a 8-speed trans. Not sure if it is going to be an Allison.

Just another reason to keep my LB7. I would love an LMM or LML but hate the idea of losing 2-3mpg on the highway (since I run 90% highway). And I don't know why everyone is bashing the Allison. Mine has never been apart, just maintained and I've had no issues for 316K+. Just wish they didn't put so much chrome on the new trucks.

Why not? You dont think they've learned a thing or two about how to build a solid diesel engine from Isuzu over the past 14 years??

GM Powertrain has an excellent record for making great engines. I mean look at the Gen III+ LSx gassers. Engines have always been GM's strong point.

If you're basing your "GM sucks at building diesel engines in-house" opinion on the 6.2/6.5's that came out 30 years ago, thats just pure ignorance.

The trans is fine. Run the damn thing like GM intended (stock power level) and you will have zero problems with the allison.

I dont know is wrong with you guys, thinking GM needs to account for the fact that less than ~5% of their diesel truck sales are going to hot-rodders. Yes. I said 5%. Another thing you people dont realize, is what a miniscule market/customer base we are (diesel hot rodders). 9 out of 10 duramax's they sell will never see a tuner or anything...hell 9 out of 10 buyers probably dont even know you can hop them up. I know thats a hard concept for all you diesel enthusiasts to wrap your head around, but its the truth. So why should GM sell the thing with a "built trans" and jack up the price a couple grand JUST to cater to the extreme minority of their customer base? Get real.

Whats the difference whether you buy a truck and then pay to build the trans, or you just pay an extra 5 grand when you buy it new for a "pre-built trans" anyways!??

no i'm not. and assuming makes an ass out of you and me... didn't mean to piss you off, just don't want to see it go downhill. sure the ls series of engines are badass and probably one of the best series out there, it's far from an in house diesel though. yeah they could make a great engine, but this will be their first attempt and after the solid and stellar run of the 6.6 GM/ISUZU engine it would be a tough act to follow. thinking anything different would be pure ignorance.

and hell yes i would love for this next engine to be the best on the market as i'm a die hard GM guy. i want GM at the top where they should be.
