When I went to the dealer and did the haggle dance it was a "GM Certified" truck, the carfax report I ran listed it as "GM Certified", when I call the credit union the salesmen told me to tell them it was certified to try and get a bump in the loan value. Ok, thats the intro, on the P.O., worksheet (that paper that I signed and I'm commited to it but its not bank specific). It had a "Non GM Certified" stamp on it with a blurb saying the purchaser turned down the 5yr/100k warranty with NOTHING in the signature box and I had no intention of intialing to turn down the warranty. After everything was signed and faxed to the credit union and I got my copy of the papers back... there was some unintelligble cat scratch initials in it. Can someone explain what the GM certified means from a loan/warranty/money standpoint (I understand the inspection process)? My credit union was a big pita in the process but I liked it cause _they_ got the dealer to come way down (they would only cover NADA fair/low condition trade in value and I only had a few thousand to add). I'm wondering why they initialed it FOR me, did I just lose out on a warranty out of spite or would I have had to pay more for it? Sorry for the novel here but this has been burning in my brain since I left the dealer yesterday and noticed it on the paper work.
Keep in mind that you are covered under law to be able to return the vehicle within 7 days. So if you think you got screwed or you have questions, start asking and take the vehicle back if you aren't satisfied.

if it is gm certified i just read that you have a 3 day-150mile return for cash option.
in canada i think it i mostly marketing as to what/when you can buy for extended warranty from gm. all the used lots here are advertizing different types of certified.
you should have the orginal paper work for the sale, if something else was written there that you did not agree to, id back out of the sale and try to renogiate for the truck if you want her. i wouldnt not buy the truck because of this but i would not live with the sales process like that.
That 5yr/100,000 mile should be transferrable and nothing for you to do. this is why i NEVER sign anything at the dealership. I always get pre-approved and work with the bank directly. Case in point...when i bought my truck the dealer got my rate at like 6.25. The going rate at the bank should have been about 5.85 or lower. I called the bank and they said they dont know how they came up with that number. they told me to apply online and see what it comes in at. I got my loan for 5.60 though the bank directly. All i had to do was get a loan for 1000 extra (i had to pay gap again so this went right back into it and they wrote me a check for the rest...actually i just applied the extra right back to the loan).
As far as GM certified...i think it is just a marketing scheme. There should also be a sticker on the truck if it is i believe.

If someone initialed something on your paper work take it back and tell them they can keep it. I am sure they are not the only car dealer with a truck. I would find out for sure if it was the Bank or the dealer first though. If the bank did it do not do buisness with them again.Same thing with the dealer. It really hacks me off when someone makes choices for me.

On the warranty / GM certified, this is where I'm confused, the carfax say the warranty is used up on everything but body corosion. I would like some type of warranty coverage on the drive train if I can get it but I dont know if this means I turned down a warranty or if I turned down the option to buy a warranty through GM. If it was to buy a warranty through GM I would probably have initialed it depending on price etc., but never if it was a "free" benefit of being a certified vehicle.
What year/mileage does this truck have? I guess that is something we never asked. If it is under 5yrs/100,000 miles old, your engine is covered...that is it and there is a $100 deductable on that too.
