Drive line lubrication

The owner manual states spline lubricant for the front axle propshaft spline. Is that the grease that goes inside the boot for the cv joint? Also, it states chasis lubricant for the rear driveine center spline. Not sure where this is located, or if I have one on a 4WD crew cab, short bed. I noticed, on the rear of the transfere case, where the shaft comes out, there is a ruber boot around it with a weep hole in the bottom of it, and there seems to be something greasy wicking out around the boot onto the shaft. Does something need lubed through that hole?

They're referring to the slip yokes on the drive shafts going into the transfer case and/or transmission, not the CV joints on the independent suspension axles.

Keeping the splines lubricated decreases wear and tear while subduing the ever popular 4x4 driveline clunk.

The rear shaft from the transfere case has a rubber seal around it with a small hole in it. There is a greasy film around the shaft next to the boot. Does lube go in there, and if so what type?

Don't know your exact truck, but a lot, including a 2005 2500 Series, use GM P/N 12345879 (Canadian P/N 10953511) or equivalent lubricant meeting GM Specification 9985830. The boot is simply retaining the grease to the splines. Be generous...
