thinking of getting a 2500 Durmax what to look out for

IM sure its been asked before but... I am looking at getting a 2500 chevy or GMC duramax, super cab short bed if I can find it. I am coming from the jeep world so bare with me. I just wanted to know if theirs anything to look out for when buying one. It will most likely be an 01 or 02. Its mostly going to be using for a short commute(less than 10 miles for now) and for camping and what not. It might get a longer commute if I get into the iron workers union but for now its pretty short. The on thing that draws me to the chevy/gmc is mainly the fact that Ive heard grea things about the engine transmission combo. I know on jeeps the main weak point is the transmission. and dont what to run into that problem with my next vehicle. IT will probably get a mild lift -4 inchs and prob intake and exhaust like my jeep got. Not looking to make loads of power but enough to scare off the local kids. Oh it has to be 4 wheel drive. JUst looking for some advice from those who know.

Thanks

First, Welcome to the site!!!! Now if your going to get into a 01-02 the most common issue with them were injectors, and even still its not real common. GM has an extended warrenty on these trucks for injectors to 200k IIRC. Other than that the trans will hold great just dont tune it with more than a 90 hp tune or you risk having problems with it. OR if you get a stick truck the dual mass flywheels were a problem but if you get that fixed they will take all the power u want!!!!!

Hope this helps
Caleb

It will be an auto, nothing like rush hour traffic with a stick. But I have one kinda dumb question. Did all of the duramax's come with the allison transmission?

If i have to move mine around i just wait til it has full oil psi and then move it, just dont go floorboarding it when its cold it will be fine. these newer engines are made to start and run more like a gas engine!

Not a well know fact because of obvious reasons but GM has extended the warranty on injectors to 300k. I was told this by a local tech and would be something to check into.
