I'll just say this: the only reason oil companies are looking at producing these fields is because they are now cost effective rather then cost prohibitive.
Do some research on the difference in quality between Arabian Peninsula crude and the stuff that normally comes out of the ground here in the US and you might begin to understand. | Don’t believe the lies that have been presented to the American people on our Domestic Quality of oil… Energy Non-Crisis Chapter 18 "The oil at the Prudhoe Bay field is pure enough that it can be cracked by any refinery in the United States, with only minor refinery alterations. Prudhoe Bay crude oil contains only 0.9% sulfur, which is quite low."
We are being manipulated and controlled via Energy, it has been the plan for many decades now, and the Oil companies are just as helpless as we are to stop it.
Stated many years before fuel topped even $2/gallon Energy Non-Crisis Chapter 20 Quote: | We are being sold down the river and we'd better put a stop to it before it's too late. As Mr. X said to me at Prudhoe Bay some years ago, "There is no energy crisis. There has never been an energy crisis. There will never be an energy crisis, but rather it is the purpose of the 'powers that be' to produce an energy crisis."
| From an incident in Estes Park, Colorado and repeated across Wyoming and the rest of the Nation: Quote: |
The man told me that he had probed very thoroughly into it and had learned that they had made a very sizable oil find. The government itself had authorized most of the drilling, but after they found it, they capped it. They said, "It will not be produced."
| Better yet, take the time and read all 20 chapters of this book. The Energy Non-Crisis by Lindsey Williams

You mistook the nature of my reply, I was in no way saying we are in an energy crisis. Was merely stating the prices will not drop as far as people are hoping they will. The days of $30/bbl oil are dead.
Do a little research on oil shale and see how much they think its going to cost to produce it. You think there was a reason they abandoned the oil shale fields of western Colorado and eastern Utah in the 80's? Thats right, it would have cost them money to extract the oil. Making it cost prohibitive. Now with the oil being as high as it is, they are talking about developping the shale fields again. That is because they are now cost effective.
edit:
also, research the difference between sweet crude (arabic) and sour crude (rocky mountains). There is a several million dollar difference when it comes to processing facilities for the two types of crude. I'm still waiting to hear if the formation they found in North Dakota is sour or sweet. If its sweet, then we might be able to get cheaper oil. If its sour, prices wont' be dropping that much.
Research the Stretford Sulfur Extraction process and see if you can find out just how expensive and complex this system is. That used to be the standard, it will give you an idea just how much more it costs to produce oil here.
Another thing, look at the regulations put on refineries. One specific refinery I used to work on is right now in the middle of a multi-million dollar project just trying to get up to speed on the new low sulfur diesel fuel crap. Not to mention all the other regulations being placed on refineries. Do you think they do this for free just to provide us with fuel? There again, prices must go up to pay for the construction.

| Supper,
We all know the expense involved in processing the oil shale deposits in Co. and WY that in the past has been cost prohibitive until now, as are many sour sources here and in Canada.
I don’t agree with the theory of lumping all of the available U.S. deposits into one category and claiming that quality issues somehow limit domestic production.
We have proven reserves of sufficient quality in existing wells that are capped and are prohibited from extraction for use.
And I agree with you in that increasing domestic production will only fuel the world market and not necessarily bring down our cost of fuel at the pump here.
And, the latest round of banter in the media regarding off limit areas in the gulf and continental shelf are a joke. Even if this area were opened up for access, the projected amount there would fuel the U.S. for about 3-1/2 years at the current 20mil barrels per day consumption. That’s if it even stayed here in the U.S.
Now, on the cost of fuel and capitol investments in refineries: Yes, upgrades to meet LSD standards required typically $160-$180mil of initial investments. Those costs were recouped long ago, and other than running through the process additional times to produce ULSD, it doesn’t cost any more to produce than before.
We are up to speed on refining. Even with domestic consumption levels of Diesel and the tremendous amounts of refined fuel that we export to other countries, our refining capacity is now only in the lower 80 percentile.

| All I know is, the world is going to hell in a hand basket in so many ways. Makes me not want to have offspring. And on a political note, between the two presidential candidates..... there is no "good" vote.....it's like voting for the lesser of two evils. Around here, people can't afford to work...so they have been breaking into houses...I live in a private, gated community, and outsiders are breaking into houses left and right. I sleep with a 45 on my nightstand, and I was told by the police, that if anyone breaks in, shoot em dead. And if I get them before they get in, drag them in the house. WTF???? Is this what its coming to?

| We agreed to pledge allegiance to the Republic, not this so-called Democracy with only the Magic 2 for a choice with unusual vote recounts (chads anyone?). There is one (R.P.), who refuses to give up and quit, that stands for the Republic and true tax reform. Unlike some years back, many people feel as you do this year and it would truly be amazing this November if the voters woke up and voted outside of the box with the Magic 2.
They changed the law recently in Texas, now you don't have to 'Drag 'em Inside' anymore. Mine close at hand is a 9MM with Hollow Points.
Nothing lower in this world than a thief, IMHO, and I’m amazed that the level of fuel thefts has not just exploded Nationwide. Diesel here dropped 5 cents 2 weeks back to $4.559 then climbed at the end of last week to $4.599 and this morn to $4.659.
Just no sense to it all as traffic was light this year for the 4th. I drove back 200+ miles from the Coast Friday evening and I’m not sure but it seemed like the Cops patrolling outnumbered the civilians on the road!
