I think my 05 Duramax gelled up

It has been pretty cold the last few weeks (-20) and my truck gelled up. I tried to start it after it sat outside for 10 hours and it will crank good, but won't turn over. I pulled the truck in my heated garage and let it sit for three days, then I replaced the fuel filter. It will crank, but still won't start. Before this happend i hadn't had any problems in the cold. I didn't put any additives into it, just the winter blend from the fuel station. Any ideas?

to the forum!!

Did you bleed the filter? Normally the fuel wont gel as long as the area you are uses winter blend. Being that it was that cold there, i am more than certain that you have winter blend.

Yes, I bled the filter, and they do winter blend the fuel, but it's only rated at -10 and it was getting down to -20.

That doesnt matter...even when i treat my fuel it can get colder than what it can be rated for. I have seen -56F with no gelling and my truck was parked outside the whole time. My buddy had a fuel heater that didnt work and he wouldnt gel until it was -40F or colder.

How much fuel is in your tank?

half a tank, someone also told me they were cheating and not really adding anything to the fuel to cut costs. I don't know if that's true.

I thinks so, when I primed it till it wouldn't push down anymore, then when I opened the bleeder screw just a bit, diesel sprayed out the screw. When I tried starting it, I could go back and prime till it wouldn't push anymore. not sure if that means anything, sorry for the incompetence.

you need to open the screw and pump it until fuel comes out and then tighten the screw. It will come out solid with no bubbles...then try to start it.
