06 Regency Badlander Poor gas milage?

I just bought this 2006 Regency Badlander PU 2500 and it has 9000 miles on it. I do not have a heavy foot and I am getting 9-10 miles around town and about 12 - 13 on freeway. I have friends who have the duramax 4x4 and they are telling me they get 16-19 highway and 14 city. Can anyone tell me if this is the normal for this truck or can the dealer do something about it. I was told it could just be that the truck computer needs to be reset or re adjusted. Is that true?
Any input would be helpful. Also my dash is telling me that my fuel filter is at 32 percent. Is it time to replace it, or can I wait a bit longer.
Thank you. I look forward to as much input as I can get,

Is your speedometer right? If not then that could be causing some of the discrepancy in mileage..

no it isnt. reads 5mph slower @ 55mph. But that only accounts for about 1 mile per 20. I did take that into account when I wrote this.

Try hand calculating your mileage for a couple tanks and see if there is any difference. The DIC mileage readings are not the most accurate. As to the fuel filter I change mine every 6000 miles and you could maybe stretch it to 8000mi. If I were you I would go ahead and change it. I am guessing your truck has a lift on it as part of the regency package. My truck lifted gets around 14mpg city and 18mpg highway and that is with the performance mods. You can either have the dealer adjust the ECM for the bigger tires if they will do it or buy a tuner and reprogram it with that.

I just bought my 06 crew cab GMC with a 6" fabtech and 35" tires. I love the truck but one of the main reasons I bought it was due to my brother in law getting 18-22 mpg in his 07 2wd stock. I figured I would be closer than I am. My speedo is off and appears to be 5mph off at 55 aswell. Therefore my dic which has indicated 14.1mpg... figures out to be 15.38 (14.1/55=... .25636x60=15.38). Anyway, I would like to make the economy improvements such as tuner, exhaust and intake. but I contacted the local dealership and they indicated it would void my warranty. currently I am still under the 3yr/36k bumper to bumper and have the remainder of the 100k power train. I don't want to mess that up. Plus I really want to fix the speedo. The dealer quoted me $187 to flash the speedo. hell for that much I could just buy a nice GPS and operate from that! If anyone could provide me with some direction as to how everyone seems to be pulling these options off or if they just don't care about the warranty. thanks

Depends on where you live. Where I bought my truck, they don't care what Mods you do. But another thing is, you have an 06. So you can buy a PPE or EFI Live, or Banks, etc...and run it 90HP or less and get better mileage. Just make sure you don't gun it and blow your tranny and hurt other things...just take it easy and get good mileage. As long as you remove the tune or tuner before you take it to the dealer, you will be fine. And you can put an aftermarket exhaust on, just don't remove the Cat.

I would think if the truck was modified by GM, that they would and should flash the computer to make the mileage correct. I would call a local dealer and talk to them about it. Or find out where the truck was bought and call them. As for the DIC and it's readings. Don't listen to it. Me personally, I change my fuel, oil, and tranny spin on every 6 thousand. Makes me know I'm doing the right thing. Some guys will say you can get more out of them, but I do the safe thing. And also, if there is a Lift and Big tires on it, and it's stock. That mileage would probably be accurate. Go get an aftermarket exhaust, and EFI live or PPE and you should be fine. Actually, with EFI Live I think you can reset your computer for the Speedo.

I just picked up my nerf bars and spoke with a local supplier. He indicated that the bully dog was his preference. Easy to use and versatile. I want to believe him but I really havn't seen much reference to the bully dog 3 system in these forums. He also told me that as long as you remove the system before taking it in you should have no problems.
