Mpg on '04 duramax

one of my buddies is looking at an '04 chev 2500 HD crew cab short bed Auto trans. I have an '02, I have heard that the newer duramaxes don't get as good mileage as the older one's what kind of mileage can he expect w/ an '04 ?

The early 04's came out with the LB7 motor, same as your 02. The LB7 should get about the same as yours. Later 04's came out with LLY motor that had more smog control stuff on it, and so with more control usually comes less fuel mileage.

You wont see as good of a mileage on a LLY as the LB7 but they isan't that much difference in the two. The LMM 07.5-08 is where the bigger drop is.
