Trans Fluid

While we're on the trans topic, could the use of Valvoline Dex/Merc fluid have had any negative impact on my trans going out at 97K?

Nope. It should have had no effect.

Hmmm What kind of truck do you got and why did it go out? The allisons are suppose to take synthetic so if you change the trans fluid with regular it could cause problems.

Its an 03 max with the Allison. Changed the filters and fluids in October and the only thing I could think of is the type of fluid that may have caused the problem. I rarely tow with it.
When I went to Kragen, they stated I should use the Valvoline Dex/Merc, so I did.

I have had 2 flushes and changed the filter 3 nearing my 4th time. I have an issue with it slipping in 5th gear at higher RPM's and a load or hill.

What type of flush did you have done? Allison does not reccomend a flush of any kind, it can delaminate the clutch packs causing it to not hold as much power.

I am on the phone with Allison right now and they said a fluid change will not hurt or delaminate the clutch pack, but instead if the wrong fluid may.
