What is DPF?

I am new to the diesel world with my 2007 Silverado 2500 Classic. What does DPF mean? I read under the Miles post that the Classic is pre-emissions and doesn't have to have the DPF removed. Waht does that mean?

a dpf is a diesel particulate filter that all 07.5 and later trucks have, it catches the soot, and after it builds up so much it goes into regen and burns the soot off and waste fuel to burn it.

I think all GM diesels have the DPF after the lb7. My lbz had one but it did not have the Regen option. I know when it "rotted off"

I could not afford to put one back on.

Its too bad that happened the first week.

Anyway ditch the DPF and pick up some MPGs, Just keep it around in case you need warranty work done.

thats the catalytic converter not dpf, the dpf is behind the cat

Sorry, I had a local exhaust manufacturer tell me Diesels did not have Catalytic converters, they were more like particulate traps( Thats why he could remove them) But that was on my old Cummins.

Sorry the guy has the only mandrel bender in the valley that will handle 4" pipe. He also builds headers and custom hotrod exhaust.

if you found a guy that would take the cats off them keep him around because legaly any muffler shop is not alowed to which make our lives harder,now i have to do my own work.LOL
