Anyone here a diesel mechanic?

I am thinking about getting certified as a diesel mechanic. I have been told the demand is high and the money is good. If anyone here has any input about the job, what it is like, what it pays, what it takes to get certified, etc.....I would really appreciate the input. Is it a good job in general? Thanks...

Heavy Truck Market

The heavy truck market is in huge demand of trained mechanics. Alot of the technology in our trucks comes from the over the road trucks. Hell it is very common to find an Allison tranny in the new trucks. And the electronics for the engines and other systems is pretty advanced. A quality school and alot of hard work and determination, you can pretty much work where and for whom you want.

Ya I agree with the above guys!

I think it would be hard to br a GM dmax tech. You would have to be a regular GM tech and diesel/duramax would be a side option. Most dealerships dont specialize in diesel they just work on it when they come in so they wont hire people to work in diesel only they want you to work on everything!

Id say you would be able to get a Job working for CAT or kenworth ETC. Actually your best bet would be to talk to those guys. Chances are they would send you to school for free! My buddy went to school and got GM certified. He graduated and went to work for Cummins. They wanted to send him to school again to learn there products!
