When is GM ever gonna update the gas platform? The 6.0 is LONG in the tooth. Been an outstanding engine, but a measly 380 ft lbs of torque? The new Duramax has over 500 more ft/lbs! That is stupid. They need a 7.0L with DI up in the 450 hp range to at least help bridge the gap a bit. Not everyone can afford the sticker price of these new diesels or needs that much power. If they don't do that they ought to have a de-tuned Duramax or something at a lower price point. Sort of like the old 8.1L that was a in between of powertrains. I was hoping to see something new, maybe 2018?
Agree completely. The gassers definitely need some R&D love. That said, full kudos to the 6.0 for what it still offers today versus the Dodge and Ford variants. Wasn't there a test somewhere in which the 6.0 destroyed the Dodge 6.4 in both loaded and unloaded acceleration.
I disagree here. The 6.0 is dead balls reliable, with a major track record. The 6.2 has a long way to go to prove itself, it's a much fiber toleranced engine, that lubricates with 0weight oil. Yeah, it's fast. But without modification no way that's a 200k maintenance free engine (big maintenance I mean).
DI requires the use of a catch can to prevent intake coking. No biggie but a definite requirement. And the 6.2 in its current form has AFM, that needs to be a selectable option for the 2500 or tuned out completely. I'd give the engine a shot under those conditions, but I'll always prefer the 6.0, as it is about the best value engine available in any pickup. Yeah it's down on power by today's standards, but it still tows like an SOB under 12klbs
Those are big numbers. I wonder if the truck will actually be any faster for it, what with all the computer gizmos robbing power here and there. But topping 1000lb ft with a simple tune, that's a cool
Number to break haha. Like the Bugatti having 1001 hp.
I haven't dynod my LMM, it's probably a little bit above those numbers. Would have been cool if it came stock with them
I had a 2011 ccsb 1500 with the 6.2.....put 225k miles on it in 3 years......no trouble at all, and I ran the crap out of it, and it was tuned since about 5k miles.....I know it's aluminum and the 6.0 is iron......just saying the power difference and fuel mileage is a big difference......but I don't know why anyone would want a 2500 gasser anyways, just my .02, and it doesn't even matter since this is about the new Duramax
No, GM pulled it down. supposedly it being up then was a screw-up. They took it down. Maybe all just a publicity stunt but the numbers were right and the page legit.
