Just Bouht a 2001 Crew Cab Duramax for 5K

So I managed to find a 01 duramax crew cab at a local pick a apart... I figued the best way to learn about the truck and get help would be to join a forum... so i was woundering if i could get a few questions answered about it...

The engine starts up and sounds great... and the tranny seems fully fuctional... but it does need a few things...

The airbags went off.... no big deal we got 2 new ones...

Its going to need a tranny oil cooler, condenser, engine oil cooler, and possibly a rad... along with the front bumper and grill... but they are a dime a dozen so that doesnt really worry me...

I have looked all ove the net for these thigns... and they seem very hard to find... i was surprised to find there was nothing on ebay either.. Where could i look for these parts... I would like to find a truck that is being wrecked... but if thats not possible i guess ill go new... anyone have any suggestions?

One other thing ive noticed about it... the odometer doesnt light up, and the code reader i have does not wanna pull the calls off the ecm... im thinking maybe a fuse is causing this... but i have looked at all of them... both by the door in the truck... and under the hood...'

Thanks guys... this looks like a great site and i hope to learn alot about the truck....

The faulty info center/odometer is a known problem on your truck. Also if it is an early 2001, then many scanners do not talk with the ecm. You may have to get a tech 2.

I think those parts will be interchangeable from the gasser trucks. Maybe a 6.0 or 8.1 truck. Look on ebay for places that sell aftermarket fenders. Chances are if you get ahold of them you can get parts cheap. Id also ask a local body shop if they can get you parts. The shop I work at does body work and we get aftermarket parts from distributors pretty cheap!

Anyways get us some pics!

I agree with towmaster, You should be able to get the radiator, cooler and condenser off a gas truck. You also should be able to get them off several different year models too.

not a bad looking truck and for the money it looks great..
all the body parts from 01-02 3/4 and 1tons are the same so that should make it easier somewhat..fraid you'll have to buy the dash cluster to fix the speedo problem..make sure you change the fuel filter, oils and also the oil filters..
