How to: Glow plug LMM

I had the No. 7 glow plug go bad after 114,000 miles so I decided to show how to swap it out. It took me 40 mins total (getting tools out and putting them away and taking pictures). If you have ever changed a spark plug then you can change a glow plug. Tools needed = 8mm socket and 12mm socket. The glow plugs are numbered 1,3,5,7 down the passanger side and 2,4,6,8 down the driver side (1 and 2 are the ones closest to the grille). First remove the inner fender and locate the glow plug, its right above the manifold with a small wire running to the top. Unhook the wire using the 8mm socket. Then remove the glow plug using the 12mm socket, then reverse the process using the new plow plug. clear the code, replace inner fender and your done! Very easy to do so no reason to pay the dealer to do it.

Hope this helps!

It's been a little while but I know it was under $30 from my local dealer because no one else had them in stock

This is really awesome. I have #4 out and I've been putting it off for awhile now. Any pics on how to remove the inner fender?

Use a pair of side cutters to get underneath the plastic plugs just don't cut thru. They should pop out fairly easy. Then it's a 10 MM socket for the bolts as there may be a couple. you will also have to push the plugs up and out of the top for the harness connections. Comes out pretty easy.

Job completed in less than 1 hour as it had to cool down first. Went back to the parts store and they cleared the code. Life is good. Hope #4 worked out Greg as it was not too bad as long as you are careful not to break the tip inside the motor. Then it's another ballgame all together. Good Luck!

I am going to pick up one today and try it this weekend. I got some cheap driving lights for the ranch hand bumper I have that I'm going to install this weekend also. Plus I want to install some LED lights for the boat. I guess I probably better do some land scraping for the wife also.
