I'm in the Phoenix area and we've had an explosion in catalytic conveter thefts. I guess the meth heads have stolen all of the copper wire... Pickups are great candidates. Huge exhaust systems mounted at a convenient height.
I ran across something called the Cat Clamp, http://www.catclamp.com/how.php, which ranges in price from $150 to $350. Does anyone have any experience with this product or have any suggestions? My friend's Toyota Sequoya was recently hit; repair bill $3,500. Ouch!
i wouldnt worry about it to be honest i for sure wouldnt spend money trying to save the cat thats for sure! i cant believe your friend had that high of a repair bill for a cat? he got ripped off badddd
I also live in Phoenix and work at a body shop repairing all these "cat thefts". You shouldn't have much to worry about, as the ones the thieves are after are older Toyota catalytic converters. They have some sort of expensive metal in them. Not to say that no other one's get stolen, but they are mostly after the Toyota's. Oh, and $3,500 is a huge rip-off. Any small muffler shop would've fixed him up for $250 tops.

Besides, if this happens, you already pay insurance for thefts (that is, if you have comp). Lose the converter and you'll like your truck better anyway!!!

I would be surprised if someone could get a cat out of our trucks quickly enough to do it without getting caught.
The pipes are huge (compared to a car)...the wall thickness of the exhaust pipe and OD is much bigger than your typical quick exhaust cutter. And if they brought tools theres a really good chance its rusted/seized enough where they will have to heat it up with a torch...
