Well, it seems that 17% of the people don't believe the facts..... About the same percentage that intentionally inhales toxic fumes on a daily basis. Could be worse....

(Nothing I'm driving moves unless ALL occupants are belted in.)

seatbelts

I think it is a personal choice, although a good one, I dont want anyone to tell me I have to wear a seatbelt, helmet, or what kind of gun I need, etc etc

I'm a fireman and get the pleasure of going on traffic collisions on a pretty busy stretch of road in the mountains where a lot of alcohol and bad judgement make for some pretty interesting wrecks.

I'm all for personal freedoms but what often happens is that the results of some personal freedoms have an effect on others. You get in a wreck and die cuz you don't want to wear your seat belt, well that affects your family. You get in a wreck and survive but don't have insurance? Well then that burden gets placed on tax payers.

Same exact thing with wearing motorcycle helmets.

I've been in two good accidents that totalled my vehicles both times. Hed my belt on in both, and I wouldn't drive with out it.

A year ago i would have told you "hell no i dont wear one", then about 6 months ago my buddy was driving home from the shop he worked at, lost control of this truck and was ejected from it at 60 mph. The same weekend i went back to iowa too. It was a wake up call for me, ever since then i have worn my seatbelt even if i go 1 mile up the road, does not matter.

seatbelts

Nobody can dislike seatbelts more than I do, but if someone chooses to not wear one, would they like to have their airbag go off while behind the wheel? I think not. That's why I wear mine. My brother is a policeman, and he has unbelted dead people, but he pointed out to me that you CAN'T get out from behind an airbag that WILL break your neck .

everyone needs to be reminded from time to time that driving is not a game. while it can be lots of fun a little common sense will go a long way in alowing you to have more fun in the future.

I know this thread has been dead for almost a month, but I felt reminders were needed.
Winter driving is coming into play around much of the country, and with that comes more accidents and rollovers.
So with that said, here is a reminder that seat belts save lives.
One woman dies, others injured in van crash on I-84 in Jerome County Saturday | News Updates | Idaho Statesman
One ejected dead, 1 ejected child flown to a children's hospital, 3 other children ejected and in the hospital. The only 2 in the van wearing seat belts were not injured.
