interior lights have a mind of their own

I have an 01 and my interior lights will sometimes come on when I open the door....sometimes they won't. I'd like them to stay on the whole time when I'm getting in at night obvioulsy. Also, the running lights come on when the truck cranks which is fine, but sometimes the dash lights will kick on when I haven't turned the switch to turn them on. Then when they are on they sometimes kick back off. I have an aftermarket cd player in there too, I dunno if that wireing could have had something to do with it. I can tell somethin is either being shorted out or something, any ideas? The cd player sometimes will come on, or not but I think that is a problem with the head unit itself

there is a little button on the dash close to the door that control whether the interior lights come on or not...

push in for off out for on

Yeah I know how to do that and it over rides the regular switch. I'm just saying there seems to be a short because the lights will come on or go off without being prompted to do so.

It really could all be from the head unit. We just has a 00 malibu in out shop that the wiring was messed up. It was causing the one of the tail lights to flicker on and off. Took about a hour to find the wrong wire and fix it.

For the dom light. Id call the auto parts store and get a new switch. Start there first.
