Has anyone sound proofed their truck? I know there is dynomat but are there any cheaper solutions or methods?
Dynamat Extreme, accept NO substitutes. Trust me, if you are doing this right, the labor is 10x the material cost. Don't skimp with cheaper "dampening". I have personal experience with this.
I killed 12 dB (yes 12 dB) off my hiway cruise noise, then again, the entire interior was removed. I probably have one of the quietest duramax in existance, after tuning it quieter also. Quieter than our explorer and expedition, and quieter than my friends lexus (highway).

I work with Second Skin Audio, and there products are top notch, Ant is a great guy to deal with!!
Cheaper than Dynamat Xtreme and better. They have a new sludge coming out that is supposed to be pretty good!!!
If its any help. I gained .8 dbs on the decible meter with the Second Skin over the Dynamat
But I guess get what you want, but keep in my mind why everyone in the car audio circuit is switching from Dynamat to Second Skin
Yeah i heard about you guys from a buddy that lives in Colorado. He sound proofed his FJ Cruiser two years ago when Second Skin was just coming out. Its so quiet in his ride its eerie...kinda like riding in one of those Prius' when its on electric. You barely hear anything.

Is that a good thing?
Re-stating, your success will not depend on your top end dampening selection, it will depend on how much labor you are willing to put into it. There is no way around this.
Material selection is such a distant second.

I used Rattle Trap Extreme when I installed the stereo. Sound proofing the roof made a big improvement. It is a lot of labor & it smelled like tar for about 3 weeks but then the smell cleared. Crew cab needed about 100 sq. ft. Get a laminate roller from Home Depot because the Dynamat roller is junk.

Are you talking about taking time to prep your vehicle, ie. clean surfaces, no air bubbles, etc. Or attempting to cover every sq in of space? Reason I ask is because I'm planning on installing a system soon and I want to put sound proofing material in.

Very good thing. Not only does Sound Deadener keep sounds out... but also in. So you dont lose sound pressure while metering your stereo system
The local audio shop here is selling dynamat extreme "license plate frame" packs.. which is like 8" x 5" for $65.00!!!!!!!
for what it is worth, a cheap and very effective way to get around the high cost of traditional sound deadening material, that I have used on a few hotrods and my own Chevelle, are as follows:
I first stripped the interior (I very much agree that the time that you are willing to spend on this section will pay dividends in the long run) down to basically bare metal with sand blaster( Iknow it is a hot rod and not a new truck would not neccessarily need to get bare metal).
I then used an epoxy primer and sealed the metal. On top of this I applied many coats of a zolatone/ or similar material like a line-x or rhinolining. This not only cleaned the inside up but it filled in the hard to get places where dynomat cannot always go, which is why this worked well for me, I was able to sound deaden the ENTIRE thing.
I topped the whole thing off with high end carpet padding material and the whole thing worked AWESOME, much better than my buddy's attempt at dynomat. His sounded very good but the cost was so high that he could not do as much as I could for about $400-$500.
The down side is that to really do this you have to completely strip the interior(have a shop to do it and have time to do it). But it works well and last forever.
Good luck with your project!

I have been hearing a lot of wind while driving lately. It started from the drivers door/windor are and not I hear it passanger rear door/window area.Anyone else have this problem?I thought maybe someone tried to break in and jammed a coathanger or something in it and damaged the weather stripping but it all seems fine.Could this possibly be a warranty issue?
