Unhappy "WIF" problems

NEW INFO AT THE BOTTOM READ ON PLEASE!!!!

Hi all, and thanks in advance for any help. now on to the fun stuff. am having a reoccuring water in fuel light. i know that there is ABSOLUTELY NO WATER IN MY FUEL. I have drained the filter, replaced the filter, replaced the WIF sensor, and let the truck sit outside at -40 and about 2 min after startup or less the stupid red light comes back on. All the dealer wants to do is to drop&drain the tank and reinstall & refuel. i read on here somewhere that the injectors can cause this, but it has none of the other problems. starts great, no smoke, idles smooth, no fuel in the crankcase, and about 9mpg in town driving including lotsa warmup time when its cold. and when its warm am gettin like 14ish.

ANY IDEAS?????????????

Exclamation stupid truck

anyone at all have any oddball ideas about this or am i just gonna have to sell the thing. im not going back to the dealer here unless i have at least some kind of idea what is going on with this thing. i drained the fuel filter again tonight after work got NO WATER from it, bled system started truck and in like 50 seconds at 1200 rpm on the high idle the waret in fuel light came back on. I really love the truck but how do i know if it is really having problems if im just ignoring the lights that come on.

no the housing is fine some of the gm filters were faulty the inner black portion of the housing is loose inside the blue plastic outer can and the o ring on the top that sits in the groove where the two parts meet cant hold the fuel in.when you pump up the system to prime it when replacing the filter you can use the hand pump to pressurize the system and check for leaks. well on the filters that arent crimped properly the inner part will tighten to the housing but the outer portion isnt fully crimped and under pressure will blow fuel out from the under side of the o ring, they will also pull in air in the vacuum operated system that the dmax uses if you dont notice it and are running it hard. know lots about the maintenance of the truck just never been anywhere into the computerized diagnostics on it yet. and am not ready to drop the 4k just to buy a tech 2 to start learnin how to diagnose it.

WIF sensor problems

andington,

I'm assuming that you did not fix your problem last week. I also have an '01 and recently changed out the fuel filter. While doing this I broke one of the WIF sensor leads, which looked like it had been stressed & started corroding right where it goes into that little plastic P.O.S. I left it unplugged and drove it for a couple weeks until I got around to replacing the WIF assembly, truck didn't seem to care whether or not it was plugged in, ran fine & no warning lights (SES or otherwise).

My thoughts on your situation- try leaving it unplugged (if you're sure there actually is no water) & see if you still get the light coming on. You may be able to track it down as a short in the other end of that wiring circuit.

Good luck.

Talking

oh yea its a rubbed wire for the sensor. they found it when they were tearing it down to put injectors in this week. i lost 3 injectors on 04/05/08 and had it towed in to the stealership. they knew absolutely nothiing about the injector 7yr200000mile warranty so thanks to OB1 here on the board i handed them a copy of the tsb and then they pulled the truck up on the master computer that they have. low and behold its covered until 05/13/08 under the recall. WHEW big relief cause they quoted $6500 for the repair at the shop. if warranty hadnt covered it i would have just had it towed home and done it my self. but i didnt have to. now i just want it to quit snowing because the 400hp 2wd 1970 chev im driving right now is not fun in the snow.
