Is this a recall or TSB? If you buy a used truck can you take it and get the dealer to do all recall and TSB work to it all at once? Will they even do that? What if I take it in and they want to reflash my computer, should I let them or will they screw it up? Is there a reflash for stock 04.5 LLY? Sorry for all the questions but my head just flooded with them.

Thanks

Brain

my 2005 2500hd duramax has had the intermediate steering shaft replaced twice, once at 23815 kms and again at 90600 kms to fix this recurring problem.

If you just bought the truck, I would suggest taking it in and allowing the dealer to run a history on it, and do any recall work that has not already been done, I would also not worry too much about a reflash, do you have a tuner? If so, then you just slap it back on when you leave, and there is also a fix for this problem, like they said before, you re-grease the steering shaft about once a year. If you will do a search on this forum I think someone has already had this up and there were pretty good instructions given about the fix.

I'm glad someone found a solution. We have multiple silverado 2500 and 3500 d max that are all doing it including a 1500 suburban, the only ones that are not are the new 08 2500 dmax and a 2000 1500 with 160 k on it and still looks like new. How many miles have you put on yours since the repair?

This intermediate steering shaft has been a problem in all silverados and suburbans since 03 I think, I had mine replace in June and it is rattling again, so YES this is a common and very annoying problem, it feels like the front end is going to fall out. There are multiple service bullitens on this, you can find them online. Do a search on this forum for technical bullitens and repair manuals, someone linked a site that has all of this info. I will see If I can find it
