Broken Fuel Gauge

My fuel gauge only works once in a while. Has anybody else had this problem?

Depending on your year it may be the gauge cluster issue that should be under recall or at least extended warranty on it...

my gauge dropped to E at 36,2xx miles yesterday and it was the fuel level sensor. They aren't going to warranty it and the part alone is 621.00

They are putting the new one in as wek speak. I will let you know what the final price is. I wonder how much they spent engineering a sending unit that would fail as soon as the warranty expired.

total bill was $820. fuel level sending unit was out and the popping noise in the front was an "insufficently lubricated" steering shaft. Remember this is on a truck thats a year old with 36K miles on it. They had to replace the sending unit and steering shaft.

Has anyone had this problem on an 08? I have a 08 with 10,000 miles on it and it's doing the same thing, sometimes it works other times it reads empty. At first I thought it had something to do with my larger fuel tank I put in that just gravity flows into the main tank.

Yes, this is a common problem when the tank is really full-- the float goes up past a normal setting and grounds the contact. Mine does this occasionally with my 64 gallon Aero tank when really full, and others have had the same problem with the gravity tank. I don't think changing the sender will correct the problem. I can live with mine.
