I like my LBZ I also have a LMM for work but it only gets 10 to 11 in town and 14.5 on the highway. It is loaded down pretty heavy and I pull a trailer alot. I would get a LBZ because it is easy to Modify.

"The best year of duramax for mileage would be the LB7 (2001-04) but the highest hp output, most mileage, AND best to modify would be the 2006-07 LBZ motors. I suggest staying away from an 08 because they had the DPF filters on them. Removing said filter is a federal law violation but many users on here have done such mod. In essence your turning your LMM into an LBZ so why not get the LBZ anyway?
As an example, say you got a 2006-07 LBZ, by adding a PPE Standard programmer, turboback exhaust, and a shift kit, you can add 120-140 more hp (40hp recommended when towing) and gain anywhere from 2-5mpg! And you would be spending less than $800 (depending on exhaust choice).
-Mike" thanks for the info, haven't all the different motors yet. LMM,LBZ,LB7??? Rick
