New

Hey guys, new to the website. I just bought my first Duramax a week ago, and I already ran into a problem. I'm relatively new to the diesel world, and I found this site dedicated to Duramax's. Hopefully someone can help...so here's the deal:

I was driving my 2003 Duramax on the freeway and all of a sudden it lost power. The vehicle wouldn't go over 30 MPH, so I pulled over, raised the hood, looked over the engine, and saw nothing obvious. I got back in the truck, shut the engine off, waited a half hour, started it back up, and continued to drive. I made it back home, and the check engine light was on. I let the vehicle sit for two days, and started it back up. The CEL light was off, and it seems to be running okay now. Any idea what happened?

Hopefully I'll stick around here awhile. Thanks in advance for any help.

Could be the fuel filter. Do you know the last time it was changed? also another thing to watch for is the LB7 motor is known for having injector probs. so check your oil and make sure its not over full and dose not smell like diesel. There is a 7yr-200,000mile warranty on the injectors. Also welcome to the DF...

Welcome to the site!!! I would agree that it was probably the fuel filter. I typically change mine every 7000-10000 miles.

What mods are done to the truck? If you have a K&N or any cotton/oil filter that could be your problem. The oil anf fibers are getting on the mass air sensor. Also go to an auto parst store or mechanic and have the codes read. Even though the light is not on the code is still stored as an inactive code. Hope this helps
