a 2005 GMC DRW CC D/A with 88k mi.....fully loaded in pristine condition, all stock... just needs tires...any advise on what to look for?
I currently have a '10 Silverado 2500HD EC gasser w/22k on it, owe $6500. We tow a 7500lb rv and does great. Our kids are getting bigger and running out of room in the back thus the desire to move to a CC. We also are looking at trading up to a 5th wheel probably around 10k lbs. I'm trying to work a deal with the dlr to where I can lower my pmnt and own this dually. Any thoughts on this? These Duramax/Allisons seem to go forever, I've never owned a diesel....just wondering if this is a bad move...thx, Eric

Not a bad move at all IMO. Check the vin number and if the 8th digit is a one then the engine is a lb7 if the 8th digit is a 2 then it is a lly. Not much of a difference but it will be helpful information. Are you going to daily drive it or just use it for towing?
it is an LLY, ran the vin & got all the options....every avail. I know of is on it. I've been doing some research and found the LB7s had injector issues, LLYs had overheating...LBZs seem to be the best going but I can't swing one now. Whoever owned this one took really good care of it from what I can see & low miles.
This forum sure has alot of info on it...trying to determine if this is a smart move or not.
Will be a tow only 2nd vehicle, my old Civic is the daily driver. (30+mpg city)
Good luck! You'll love it and so will your kids. I recently traded my jeep rubi for a 05 chev 3500 drw with it pretty much loaded with options, dvd player etc and the whole family loves it! I dont dd mine though, i have a camry for that
welcome and again good luck you'll love the diesel!
Ok here's another question....if I do go with this truck, what mods should I be looking at? My main goal is fuel mileage, longevity/reliability, towing. I'm not looking to be a speed freak...just don't want breakdowns while towing our rv.
