what year of duramax is best...

i plan on buying a duramax in the next couple of weeks, but what is the best year of engine model is the best for longevity, weak point in breaking parts, and best fuel mpg. lost out here thank for all the help..... Cody

I own a 2008 crew; bought it new in March of 2008.

20,000 miles on it 100% trouble free on the drive train and emmissions :rockin

They come with the 6spd tranny and 360 hp without all the emissions crap like the DPF. Still has the egr and cat. but not as restricted as the LMM.

I forgot to mention that it is 100% stock except for a few scratches in the bed and a few bugs on the windshield

personally I think, the 01'-02' Body style was the best, but as far as engine wise, either the LB7 or LBZ

I agree with aggar and 06-07. I just got lucky when I got mine! The older ones had injector problems, weaker trans, and overheating issues. Newer body style ones have a tone of emissions junk on them. This year is the best IMO.

When did GM go to the 6 speed??

What is wrong with the 5 speed?? Does it overheat or is it just not as efficient as the 6 speed?
I have heard before that the 6 is way better then the 5.

i believe 04 was the last year of the 5 speed
i the 6 speed can handle more hp stock then the 5 speed

and i would say get a lbz as well
