Just another F.N.G.

Hey guys, Just wanted to check in and say Hi. I've been cruising the forum for a while checking out some of the posts that pertain to my truck and have found some very helpfull infomation already. Being a complete newb. to the diesel scene I have a question for you guys and gals, how exactly does "stacking" chips work?? I have plenty of time into building performance gas engines for trucks and atvs but this is all new to me. Thanks for your help.

PS: I have an 05 4x4 D-Max extended cab long bed 2500 with 66,000 mi. And i'm from AZ,

Thanks again

I know some people stack because some programmers have different options than others. Good example....I believe Banks doesn't shut your governer off....but PPE does....so people will stack so they can remove certain options. But I also heard that it is really really really bad for your truck. So I def. wouldn't recommend doing it unless you have a crap load of money on hand to replace your tranny and other parts.

What stacking basically dose is add just a touch more to get a few more hp. for example only-- if the stock injection timing would be 14* now u add a downloader and the file uses 20* now stock timing with a harness box is 14* and the box intercepts the ecm signal of 14* and adds 6* to make 20*. By using both you can come up with 26* with the downloades 20 and the boxes+6*.
Same type of deal for the fuel! but it can be bad if using to big of files together since there really is no way to know what the two are actually doing together! I always had the best luck with a edge and predator on 60hp!

BTW Welcome to the site!!!

Thanks for your help guys. In your opinion what are the best mods to do and in what order should i do them? I am looking for better all around mileage and maybe a little more power without sacrificing the logevity of the engine or tranny. Also what are some things I should look out for on this truck?

well IMO go with exhaust.. from like silverline a CAI from Snb or AFE then for programming go with EFIlive... and then invest in a set or boost and egt guages to monitor whats going on.. on a stock tranny you should be able to add up to 90 hp with no problem but go and more and then you will fry your tranny.. so if your looking to go more than that start saving for a suncoast kit... and BTW welcome to the forum!
